History

Considered as one of the most important sites of Monferrato from the rural and landscape point of view, Podere La Piazza looks over a unique body of about 13 hectares of land used for wine cultivation, mainly Barbera d'Asti. The first settlement dates back to XVII century; in front of the estate there was a Parade ground of what was at that time the town of Loreto, which was considered as important as Asti.

The first settlement dates back to XVII century; in front of the estate there was a Parade ground of what was at that time the town of Loreto, which was considered as important as Asti.

It is easy to guess why the block of buildings was named "La Piazza". In the XVIII century, the estate was purchased by Messrs. Cassanello, Genoese landowners, who entrusted the family Dafarra with the hard work in vineyards and the production of Piedmontese wines and vermouth.

In the '60ies, the cav. Giuseppe Dafarra decides to purchase the whole property to which he has devoted all his working life as tenant farmer.

The idea of a holiday farm comes to Michele Dafarra in early 70ies, when the sector of agritourism was not even regulated. Michele Dafarra has been a pioneer in the territory of Asti and one of the first person in Italy to propose homemade dishes in a welcoming and authentic environment, with the help of mum Angela. This turns out to be an immediate success. In the ‘90ies Dafarra obtains a restaurant licence for a part of the Podere.

In 2007, its 10 rooms are refurbished and completely restored; in 2010, the owner builds the indoor garden in the courtyard of the farmhouse.

In 2018, the historical dining room is refurbished and the bistro is inaugurated. The bistro is open all nights except for Mondays, with a la carte menu and gourmet pizza. In summer, dinners are served outside.
We also serve appetizers.
Always in 2018, the holiday farm opens the frescoed rooms to the public.

Podere la Piazza becomes a sought-after location for wedding receptions, which are managed by Josè Dafarra as to the cuisine and by his wife Michela Surano as to the organisation. Immersed in greenery, Podere La Piazza has been owned and managed by the family Dafarra since 3 generations and it keeps on welcoming its guests with care and authenticity.
